Welcome to the class of bony fishes!  The majority of bony fishes are part of the group called ray-finned fishes.  This means that their fins are made up of very thin bones and thin layers of skin.  There are approximately 28,000 species in class Osteichthyes--more than in any other class of vertebrates!  Below, are examples of bony fish:
