Class Chondrichthyes
This class belongs in the bigger taxon of fishes. As with all groups of fishes, class Chondrichthyes have paired fins, scales, and gills. What distinguishes class Chondrichthyes, is that they do not have bones. Instead, they have strong, flexible tissues called cartilage. Examples of this class include sharks, skates and rays.
There are about 350 species of sharks.
